The Gulu City Marathon was more than a race — it was a celebration ofresilience, community, and personal triumphs. As we prepare for the nextedition, we want to capture and share the stories that made GCM 2025unforgettable.
I was motivated to run the Gulu City Marathon because of my personalconnection to its roots. When I lived in Kampala, I was part of the Fast& Furious Running Club end-of-year run to Gulu, which later grew intowhat is now the Gulu City Marathon. Coming back to participate was myway of supporting the cause, honoring that history, and enjoying thecamaraderie of the recreational running community in Uganda.
One of the biggest challenges I overcame was the time, cost, andlogistics of traveling from another country. Flying into EntebbeAirport, then making the road trip to Gulu, is not easy to fit into ashort weekend, especially with work and other commitments. But themeaning of the event and the connection to the running community madethe effort worthwhile.
The most special moments were reuniting with fellow runners, catchingup with old friends, and feeling the same strong community spirit thatfirst made the Gulu run so memorable for me. The celebration after therace also stood out as a beautiful reminder that GCM is more than amarathon — it is a gathering of friends, a celebration of resilience,and a shared experience that continues long after the finish line.
